Core Competencies

Flora provides strategic, discreet, and results-focused representation in high-stakes matters involving Chinese and foreign elements, including:

  • International divorce and separation under Chinese law

  • Child custody, relocation, and international abduction prevention

  • Division of complex assets (China + overseas jurisdictions)

  • Cross-border inheritance and estate planning

  • Recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments

She is regularly instructed as an expert on Chinese family and inheritance law by courts in the United Kingdom, United States, Australia, Canada, Switzerland, Singapore, and other jurisdictions. Her expert evidence was central to the landmark English High Court case DO & BO (Temporary Relocation to China) [2017] EWHC 858 (Fam).

Pioneering Experience

Flora Huang was the first lawyer in mainland China to build a dedicated practice focused on complex cross-border family and private client matters for expatriates and international families. When she started this work in 2011, this specialized area barely existed in Shanghai or elsewhere in China. Since then, she has personally handled nearly 400 such cases.

In X.L. v. C.B., 2024 ONSC 3895 (Ontario Superior Court of Justice), Flora was formally qualified and accepted by the court as an expert on Chinese family law, while the court declined to qualify a prominent New York-based international family lawyer who was relying on information provided by a Shanghai practitioner.

Approach & Philosophy

Flora has been invited to join leading international family law associations but has deliberately chosen to remain fully independent. This independence enables her to provide completely objective, client-focused advice guided solely by each case’s merits and her clients’ best interests.
